Sowore Dares Wike As He Reacts To FCT Minister Warning On Protest In Abuja

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general election, Omoyele Sowore, has challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his declaration that Abuja is not available for protests on August 1.

The planned nationwide protests, tagged #EndBadGovernance, have gained momentum and are scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10, 2024. The organisers, who have remained anonymous, are expressing concerns over the prevailing hunger and rising inflation in the country.

Wike announced on Thursday that August 1 has been reserved for the Chairmen of the six Area Councils of the FCT to present certificates of recognition to traditional rulers, effectively banning protests on that day.

However, Sowore, in a post on his X handle on Friday, asserted that the proposed nationwide protests will commence in Abuja.

He said, “It is starting from and in Abuja!”
