APC Speaks On Tinubu Dumping 1999 Constitution Over Protest Organizers Demand

Amidst apprehension of a planned nationwide protest, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the organizers to abandon their demand for President Bola Tinubu to scrap the 1999 Constitution, describing it as unrealistic.

Speaking in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with the Forum of APC State Chairmen to discuss the proposed protest’s modalities, the National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, emphasized that the renewed demand for the President to discard the constitution he vowed to uphold is a mission impossible.

According to Senator Basiru, President Tinubu alone does not have the authority to unilaterally scrap or alter the 1999 Constitution in any form.

Senator Basiru further noted that, after an intellectual review, the National Working Committee of the party found that the fifteen charter demands outlined by the protest organizers largely pertain to political issues and constitutional amendments, which are not suitable subjects for protest.
