The Dangote Group has refuted a media report alleging that its oil refining subsidiary, Dangote Refinery, is reselling crude oil sourced from the United States and Nigeria.
This report claimed that the refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), is reselling crude due to technical issues.
According to Reuters, four trade sources indicated that the Lagos-based refinery is offering the crude to buyers due to these technical constraints.
Additionally, Reuters mentioned that an unnamed Dangote executive denied that the refinery is experiencing operational challenges related to a defective crude distillation unit (CDU).
In a statement to PREMIUM TIMES on Friday night, Dangote Industries Limited described the Reuters report as “misleading” and urged the public to disregard it.
“This is outright falsehood as we are not authorised to sell any crude we buy from Nigeria! Also, our CDU is working and in perfect condition,” said Anthony Chiejina, the group’s chief spokesperson.
“We advise that you ignore these false narratives being peddled by those bent on the importation of dirty fuels into the country,” he added.
