BREAKING: Kano Governor Takes Action On New Minimum Wage

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf inaugurated a State Advisory Committee on the new national minimum wage on Tuesday, just 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu approved the N70,000 minimum wage agreed upon with labor unions.

The ceremony took place at the Government House and was conducted by Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo on behalf of Governor Yusuf.

According to a statement from the Deputy Governor’s spokesman, Ibrahim Shuaibu, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the committee is tasked with effectively planning for the new minimum wage and providing practical recommendations for immediate implementation by the state government. He assured that the new wage would contribute to the state’s development across all sectors, as worker welfare is a priority for the administration.

“The committee is expected to deliver results within three weeks,” the statement read. “The Governor reminded members of their selection based on merit and urged them to produce convincing outcomes.”

The newly appointed Chairman of the Committee, Usman Bala, Special Adviser to the Governor on State Affairs, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the committee. He highlighted that the process would significantly impact thousands of workers in both the private and public sectors by balancing the interests of employers, employees, and the public. He assured that the committee would use comprehensive data analysis and consider all relevant factors to recommend a sustainable minimum wage for the state government.
