Gunmen Storm Church During Service, Kidnap Former Reps Member

Gunmen have abducted Joan Onyemaechi, a former Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education. The abduction occurred on Tuesday during a church service along DBS Road in Asaba.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating that the kidnappers fired shots before taking Onyemaechi to an unknown location. Two police officers assigned to her were shot, resulting in the death of one officer, while the other sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The police have launched a manhunt for the abductors.

Joan Onyemaechi previously represented the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency in the House of Representatives in 2015 and served as a lawmaker for Aniocha South in the Delta State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015. She was appointed as Commissioner for Technical Education by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori before resigning earlier this year.
