BREAKING: Kano Governor Declares 24-hour Curfew Hours After Supporting Protest

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has imposed a 24-hour curfew after protests against economic hardship turned violent.

The announcement was made in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, on Thursday.

According to the statement, the decision followed an Emergency State Security Council meeting convened to address the escalating violence and disruptions resulting from the civil demonstrations.

Tofa stated that the curfew was unanimously agreed upon during the emergency meeting to protect lives and safeguard both public and private property.

“The imposition of this curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and ensure the safety of our communities.

“It is paramount that we protect our citizens from further harm and preserve the sanctity of our state’s institutions and businesses,” he said.

The governor urged all citizens to stay vigilant and stand united during this difficult time.

“Let us not allow the actions of a few selfish individuals to divide us.

“Together, we can navigate these challenges and fortify our resolve to build a stronger, more resilient Kano State,” he said.

The statement emphasized that all security agencies in the state have been instructed to enforce the curfew strictly, and citizens are urged to comply for their own safety and the well-being of everyone.

Earlier, hoodlums looted the newly built Nigeria Communication Commission Industrial Park in Kano State.

Photos and videos circulating online show the building being set on fire, with the looters making off with valuable items such as computers, furniture, and electronics.

The governor yesterday had declared support for protest.
