Security Agencies Have Uncovered Senator Sponsoring Protests – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced on Thursday that security agencies have identified a Senator who allegedly sponsored protests in the nation’s capital. He made this disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja following a security council meeting.

While the minister did not reveal the identity of the Senator, he claimed that the lawmaker supplied food to the protesters.

“That is sponsorship. A senator providing food for protesters. At the appropriate time, security agencies will invite the senator and find out how you will be sponsoring this kind of thing against the government of the day.”

He further cautioned protesters in the nation’s capital to adhere to the court order by confining their demonstrations to the MKO Abiola Stadium. The minister explained that security agencies received intelligence suggesting that some individuals might attempt to hijack the peaceful protest, which is why they are urging protesters to remain in a single location.

Wike emphasized that he is not opposed to protests, but insists that all demonstrations must be conducted lawfully.

Earlier, the minister praised the protesters in the capital for rejecting violence and opting for peace. He also reiterated the Federal Government’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the protesters, emphasizing that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is taking steps to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians.
