Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has shared his position on fuel subsidy removal amidst ongoing protest against hunger in Nigeria.
Protesters have called for the return of fuel subsidy as a way of mitigating the current high cost of food items in the country.

Omokri took to social media to share his position on the call for the return of fuel subsidy
Omokri wrote: President Tinubu was right in removing fuel subsidy. Under no condition must it return. If fuel subsidy returns, Nigeria will never fulfil her potential. Nigerians who love Nigeria should put aside ethnic, religious and partisan differences and support the President on this issue. Protest or no protest, fuel subsidy will end Nigeria if we do not end fuel subsidy. In this limited case, I stand with Tinubu.
Electricity subsidies can return, but it should be for a limited time. Because if you take into account our national revenue, there is no way we can continue with both subsidies without heavy borrowing. And if we keep on borrowing, it will get to the point where we become bankrupt. And then what? Will we protest until China and the West forgive our debts?
The President should stay the course and refuse to be blackmailed into returning fuel subsidy. Those behind the protest, like Peter Obi and Omoyele Sowore, know that the return of fuel subsidy will cripple our economy. And that is what they want. So that they can have something to use against the President during the 2027 election campaign season. To them, it is not about patriotism. It is about self interest. They are both failed Presidential candidates.
