Trump Agrees To Debate Harris, Announces Date

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced late Friday that he had reached an agreement with Fox News to debate Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4.

“I have agreed with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. However, it was not immediately clear whether Harris had accepted the debate invitation.

Trump’s announcement came just hours after Harris secured the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, becoming the party’s candidate for the upcoming November election.

Trump’s campaign took a surprising turn on July 21 when President Joe Biden, 81, withdrew his candidacy due to increasing concerns about his age and declining polling numbers, endorsing Harris instead.

Biden made his decision following a challenging debate against Trump on CNN in June, where his performance was widely criticized.

A second debate between Trump and Biden had been scheduled for September 10 on ABC television. While the debate was expected to go ahead with Harris replacing Biden, Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung stated last week that it was “inappropriate” to schedule it before Harris was formally confirmed as the Democratic nominee.

In his post, Trump also shared details about the debate venue and moderators, noting that it would be held before a full audience.
