Nigeria’s D’Tigress will face the reigning USA champions in the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics women’s basketball tournament on Wednesday, following the draw on Sunday.
The Nigerian team has made history as the first African nation—men or women—to reach the last eight of an Olympic basketball competition.
Their opponents, the USA, have won the last seven Olympic titles and will present a formidable challenge. Nigeria secured their quarter-final spot with a 79-70 victory over Canada, while the USA defeated Germany 87-68, led by 19 points from Jackie Young and 14 points from A’ja Wilson.
In other quarter-final matchups, host nation France, bronze medallists from the Tokyo Games, will play against Germany, and Spain will face Belgium. The day’s first game features Serbia against Australia.
The knockout stages for both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will take place in Paris after the group stages were held near Lille.
