A senior Ukrainian security official has revealed to AFP that thousands of Ukrainian troops are involved in an incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, with the goal of “stretching” and “destabilizing” Russian defenses.
The official, speaking anonymously, stated late Saturday, “We are on the offensive.

The aim is to stretch the enemy’s positions, inflict maximum losses, and destabilize the situation in Russia, as they are unable to protect their own border.”
Earlier, the Russian military reported that Ukraine had deployed approximately 1,000 soldiers in the incursion, which began on Tuesday and seemed to surprise the Kremlin as Ukrainian forces breached Russian defensive lines.
When asked about the number of Ukrainian troops involved, the official clarified, “It is a lot more… thousands.”
After several days of silence from Ukrainian authorities, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the operation during his nightly address on Saturday, stating that Kyiv is “pushing the war into the aggressor’s territory.”
