President Bola Tinubu extended his congratulations to Nigeria’s former head of state, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, on his 83rd birthday.
This was announced in a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, on Saturday in Abuja.

The statement highlighted Babangida’s contributions to the nation’s development, particularly in infrastructure and other sectors.
Mr. Tinubu praised the celebrant for his role in completing the Third Mainland Bridge, which was the longest bridge in Africa at the time.
“The President acknowledges the role of General Babangida in the sculpting of modern Nigeria, and commends him for his services to the nation.
“President Tinubu wishes the former head of state many more years in good health,” said Ngelale.

Mr. Babangida, affectionately known as IBB, served as Nigeria’s military president from 1985 to 1993.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu summoned a Council of State Meeting on August 13, 2024.
Former leaders are expected to be in attendance of the Council of State meeting.
Two former leaders were notably absent in the meeting and they include; Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida.
