Tension As Ukrainian Strikes Destroy Key Bridge In Russia

On Saturday, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that it had destroyed a strategically important road bridge in Russia during its offensive in the Kursk region.

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk shared a video on Telegram, showing the bridge over the Seim River in the Glushkovo district reduced to rubble.

The destruction of this critical supply route for Russian troops was confirmed by Russia earlier in the day.

The bridge had been under attack by Ukrainian forces for several days since the incursion began on August 6.

Oleshchuk confirmed that Ukrainian pilots are actively engaged in combat operations in the Kursk region, conducting precision strikes against enemy positions, equipment, and supply routes.

“Ukrainian pilots are targeting enemy strongholds, equipment concentrations, and logistics centers,” he stated. He also extended thanks to the pilots and those supporting the Air Force’s efforts.

The offensive in Kursk comes as part of Ukraine’s broader push to pressure Russia into negotiations to end the ongoing full-scale invasion that began in February 2022.

On Friday, Kursk Governor Alexey Smirnov reported the bridge’s destruction. Russian military bloggers on Telegram indicated that the bridge was initially shelled with U.S.-made rockets and then demolished by a glide bomb strike.

They also reported that two volunteers were killed while attempting to evacuate people during the earlier shelling.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned Ukraine for using Western weapons to target civilian infrastructure in Kursk and vowed that those responsible for such actions would be held accountable.
