Governor Lawal Opens Up On ‘Appointing Suspected Terrorist Hadejia As Special Adviser’

On Wednesday, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal denied appointing Bashir Hadejia, a suspected terrorist and gunrunner, as a Special Adviser in his administration.

Hadejia, who was arrested last Monday for alleged treason and subversion, had previously served as a special adviser to Bello Matawalle, the current Minister of State for Defence, during Matawalle’s tenure as Zamfara State Governor.

Following Hadejia’s arrest, a letter dated October 27, 2023, and purportedly signed by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Mal Abubakar M. Nakwada, surfaced online, claiming that the state government had offered him an appointment.

However, Governor Lawal refuted the authenticity of the appointment letter in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, labeling it as fake.

“Let me make a categorical statement here. I did not appoint Hadejia as a Special Adviser,” the governor said.

“If you look at the letter heading itself with the date, something is fishy somewhere. We issued statement that we had nothing to do with that, that was a forged letter.

“Whenever I appoint advisers, I usually tell the media that I have appointed X, Y, Z in different positions. I challenge anybody to show me where we made that kind of statement.”
