BREAKING: Court Stops APC From Conducting Congresses In Rivers

A State High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has issued an injunction barring the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from conducting ward and local government congresses.

Justice Godwin Ollor, who presided over the motion ex parte, ordered that APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Secretary Surajudeen Ajibola-Basiru, and the APC itself are prohibited from proceeding with the congresses scheduled for October 11, 16, and 26, 2024.

The plaintiffs in the case, Peter Ohochukwu and Hajia Ndidi-Chukwuma, have also named the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigerian Police, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

Justice Ollor’s ruling restricts the defendants, their associates, or agents from conducting, supervising, holding, or monitoring any elections related to the formation of the Rivers State executive committee.

The ruling also prevents the APC national leadership from attempting to suspend the current state executive led by Emeka Beke.

The case is set for a hearing on the motion on notice on September 9.

This development follows statements from the recently ousted chairman, Tony Okocha, who has declared that the party will not participate in the forthcoming council elections.
