The Ekiti chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed former Governor Ayodele Fayose’s endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as inconsequential and worthless.
PDP Secretary Funmi Oguns stated that the party remains untroubled by this endorsement and is determined to defeat Oyebanji in the 2026 governorship election.

Oguns asserted that the outcome of the election would surprise Fayose and his supporters, noting that Ekiti residents are in a challenging situation and are seeking solutions through effective leadership, which the PDP is ready to provide.

She emphasized that the 2026 election will serve as a time for voters to closely examine Oyebanji’s governance, especially in light of the substantial revenue Ekiti State has received from the federation account.
The former commissioner said: “The best way to get our democracy right is for us to allow all our people to demonstrate their democratic rights. So, Governor Ayodele Fayose as a leader is free to display his fundamental right and support whoever he likes, but this won’t change what Ekiti people were determined to do.
“In the last one year, Ekiti state had been consistently receiving an average of N6.5bn monthly from the federation account. The wage bill stands at N2.3 billion. Where has the rest of the money gone?
“As we speak today, the only visible project being spearheaded by this government is the flyover in Ado Ekiti, which is below 15% execution threshold, with no signal that it will be completed in record time.
“Other road projects awarded to contractors are being executed at snail speed. So, people are ready to take their destiny in their own’s hands in 2026 in Ekiti.
“The recent protests across the states of the federation was an eye opener that the game was up for the APC at all levels. So, PDP is taking over Ekiti and we are preparing for it.
“But by my own opinion, he is free to exercise his fundamental right to support whoever he likes. He remains my boss and someone I respect very much. I will never cast aspersion on him as my leader.”
