Amadein Tibiebi, the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State, has been detained by officers from Zone 16 of the Nigerian Police over allegations of illegal firearm possession.
Tibiebi, a former militant, is currently under interrogation at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Bayelsa State Police Command, as Zone 16 lacks a detention facility.

His arrest on Monday follows an incident from November 2021, when Richard Okon was apprehended for allegedly possessing illegal firearms at a wake-keep in Koluama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
In a confessional video, Okon claimed the weapon belonged to Tibiebi, who he stated was his associate. However, the matter did not progress further at that time.

According to a police source, Tibiebi had been previously summoned by the police but evaded consequences by presenting fake licenses and forged documents, likely due to his connections.
His current arrest follows a new petition accusing him of making threats to life.
The source indicated that Tibiebi, unfazed by the 2021 incident, had been boasting about his influential connections.
Another source from Zone 16 revealed that upon his arrest, Tibiebi attempted to contact high-profile individuals, including senators and senior law enforcement officers, in an effort to avoid detention.
“Tibiebi is being investigated for alleged illegal possession of firearms. It is a serious offence, but he has been calling very powerful people to go scot free,” the source said.
Tibiebi is both a nephew and the chief security officer to Cleopas Moses, a former PDP state chairman and representative of Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the Ninth Senate.
A community source said, “Tibiebi has been boastful about being untouchable by law enforcement officials because of his connections in the PDP and state government.”
Zone 16 Public Relations Officer, Emonena Gunn, confirmed the arrest saying the matter was under investigation.
