A Nigerian man is urgently seeking financial assistance after his wife gave birth to 11 babies in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Yahaya Nafiu, 56, is appealing for help to support his family as they care for the newborns and their mother.
Nafiu, who serves as the Missioner for the Ilorin Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) in Port Novo, Ajasse, and Cotonou, revealed that his 54-year-old wife, Alake Latoyosi, delivered the babies in two separate births.

The first group of six babies was born on August 7, and the second group of five was born on August 14.
A birth attendant assisted with both deliveries.
The babies include eight boys and three girls, though two of the girls died during childbirth.
Nafiu shared that the remaining nine babies are healthy but expressed difficulty in managing the substantial financial burden required for their care and that of their mother.

“A few days after the delivery of the first set of children, my wife said she felt strange movements in her stomach. After a scan was carried out at the hospital, the doctor revealed that she was carrying another set of children, which led them to contact the initial birth attendant, and the next set of five babies was delivered”, Nafiu said.
According to Nafiu, the pregnancy lasted over three years before the delivery. He mentioned that the hospital was unable to determine the pregnancy’s position, which prevented the doctors from performing a Caesarean section.
Nafiu attributed this difficulty to what he believed was an evil spiritual influence affecting the doctors.
Nafiu also noted that he had several children from previous relationships, and his wife had children from her previous marriage as well.
Abdulmumini Abdulmalik, the national president of IEDPU, added that Nafiu is originally from the Onikeke Compound in the Popo Giwa area of Ilorin.
“History is repeating itself in Ilorin. A few years after the end of World War 1, about a century ago, history was made in Ilorin when a woman gave birth to decuplets (10 babies at a single birth),” Abdulmalik said.
The IEDPU leader noted that the area where the first recorded case occurred became informally known as Ita Goma, or the “arena of decuplets.”
He expressed joy that another Ilorin native living abroad has been blessed with decuplets once again.
“While welcoming the decuplets and congratulating the parents on this uncommon blessing, we rejoice with Mai Martaba, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, during whose reign this glorious history of an Ilorin indigene having decuplets repeating self”, he added.
Abdulmalik urged both the government and individuals within the Ilorin Emirate to provide financial support to Mr. Nafiu, enabling him to care for his newborns and their mother.
