BREAKING: Celebration Cut Short As Northern Governor Denies Approving Payment Of N70,000 Minimum Wage

The Government of a northern state in Nigeria, Yobe State has declared a viral post claiming approval of a new minimum wage as false and misleading.

In a statement released in Damaturu on Thursday, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs for Gov. Mai Mala Buni, clarified that the state government has not yet issued any statement on the new minimum wage and is still deliberating on the matter.

“The attention of the Yobe Government has been drawn to a false and misleading post on social media alleging approval of a new minimum wage.

“The government has not issued any statement about the minimum wage as it is still working on it, and will provide a statement on this, as soon as it is completed.

“It is therefore grossly irresponsible, preemptive and misleading for anyone to unofficially speak, or post any statement for, or on behalf of the state government.

“The post failed to provide details nor indicate when and where the statement emanated, making the content professionally discredited,” Mohammed said.

The aide noted that a national daily had disavowed the content of the post, stating that the logo used in the online post did not originate from them and that the story was not available on their website.

He, therefore, advised the public to disregard the “mischievous and misleading post
