Lagos, Chinese Company Sign MoU On 50 MW Solar Power For LASU, Other Institutions

The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company to implement solar power systems at key educational institutions.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the agreement during the ongoing Africa-China Cooperation Summit (#FOCAC2024) in Beijing, where President Bola Tinubu is leading the Nigerian delegation on a state visit to China.

The project aims to generate approximately 50 megawatts (MW) of cleaner and more affordable electricity.

Solar power systems will be installed at Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine.

This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the institutions’ dependence on grid electricity and fossil fuels, contributing to environmental sustainability.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who signed the MoU, highlighted that this initiative underscores Lagos State’s commitment to integrating sustainable energy solutions into its economic development strategy.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who witnessed the signing, emphasized the importance of such collaborations in advancing Nigeria’s energy transition.

The development aligns with Lagos State’s broader goal of leading renewable energy adoption in Nigeria, enhancing the state’s energy security, and reducing its carbon footprint.
