Details Emerge As ICPC Quizzes Ngige

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has questioned former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, regarding the award of contracts and alleged jobs racketeering at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

ICPC spokesman Demola Bakare confirmed that Ngige appeared at the Commission’s headquarters to provide information for an ongoing investigation.

However, Bakare did not elaborate on the specific allegations, noting that Ngige might be summoned again as the investigation progresses.

Ngige was not detained during his visit to the ICPC on Wednesday.

Previously, the ICPC had interrogated several high-ranking officials of the NSITF over an alleged ₦47 million gratuity payment made to former Managing Director Maureen Allagoa while she was still in service.

In parallel, Ngige’s successor, Senator Simon Lalong, established a special committee to investigate alleged irregularities involving contract awards totaling up to ₦1.8 billion at the NSITF.

Both the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are now involved in the inquiry, leading to Ngige’s recent summons.
