In 2023, the purchase of the presidential yacht generated criticisms and condemnation from many Nigerians. In response to public discontent, the Presidency clarified that the yacht was not intended for the personal use of the president.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, explained that the Navy had requested the platform and that its approval was granted by the previous administration.

The 2023 supplementary budget disclosed that the Federal Government allocated N5.095 billion for the purchase of a presidential yacht, listed under the capital expenditure for the Nigerian Navy.

A presidential yacht typically refers to a naval vessel designated for use by a country’s president.

Such a vessel is often assigned as the presidential yacht during ceremonial events like fleet reviews.

Presidential yachts have been owned and operated by world leaders since the 1890s.
