In a strategic effort to cut fuel costs and offer Nigerians an affordable alternative to petrol and diesel, President Bola Tinubu has introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N230 per litre.
This move provides a cost-effective and cleaner option compared to petrol, which currently exceeds N900 per litre, demonstrating the President’s commitment to easing the cost of living and mitigating the impact of petrol subsidy removal.
The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), launched under President Tinubu’s directive, aims to deliver significant benefits by substantially reducing fuel expenses.

This initiative aligns with the government’s push for energy diversification and seeks to offer immediate relief, particularly for those who rely on transportation for their livelihood.
As part of the initiative, President Tinubu has ordered the distribution of one million free CNG conversion kits to commercial vehicles engaged in transporting people, food, and goods.

Over the next 18 months, these kits, along with free installation, will be provided to help the transport sector transition to CNG and benefit from lower fuel costs.
The distribution of the kits will be managed in collaboration with key partners to ensure nationwide coverage.
In the initial phase, PCNGi will distribute 10,000 free conversion kits this week through major national transport associations, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Moove, UBER, and the Kaduna State Transport Authority (KSTA).
This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on transport operators and the public.
The conversion process will be supported by PCNGi in partnership with NIPCO Gas, which will oversee the conversion at a network of authorized centers across Nigeria.
These centers will provide the necessary infrastructure and services to facilitate a smooth transition to CNG.
By adopting CNG, Nigeria is embracing a more affordable, cleaner, and sustainable fuel alternative.
The government’s goal is to distribute all one million conversion kits by the end of 2025, ensuring that Nigeria’s commercial transport sector is well-equipped to shift away from expensive petrol and diesel.
This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s broader vision for a more resilient and economically stable Nigeria, providing practical solutions to rising fuel costs while promoting sustainable energy practices.
