Ghana Likely To Play AFCON Qualifiers In Nigeria As CAF Rejects Home Stadium

According to multiple reports from Ghana, the Black Stars are expected to play their remaining home qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Nigeria.

This decision follows the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) rejection of the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi as a venue due to significant structural issues, including inadequate drainage, uneven playing surfaces, and inconsistent grass coverage.

Other potential venues in Ghana, such as the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadiums, also did not meet CAF’s standards, leaving the country without an approved venue for the qualifiers.

CAF has instructed Ghana to find an alternative venue outside the country for their crucial Matchday three and four fixtures in October.

The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, has emerged as the most likely choice due to its proximity. This 30,000-capacity stadium currently serves as the home ground for the Super Eagles.

Other stadiums being considered include Côte d’Ivoire’s Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Stade de la Paix, Cameroon’s Japoma Stadium in Douala, and Morocco’s Berkane Municipal Stadium.

The Ghana Football Association is expected to make a final decision in the coming days.
