BREAKING: Tinubu Lands In Trouble After Hike In Fuel Price

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu, accusing his administration of failing to reverse the recent increase in the petrol pump price.

SERAP Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare announced on Sunday that the lawsuit was initiated due to the President’s inaction regarding allegations of corruption and mismanagement within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The lawsuit names as respondents the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the NNPCL. The case, numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/1361/2024, was lodged at the Federal High Court in Abuja last Friday.

SERAP seeks a court order to compel President Tinubu to instruct the NNPCL to reduce the petrol price from N845 per litre to N600 per litre.

Additionally, SERAP requests the court to mandate President Tinubu to direct Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and relevant anti-corruption agencies to investigate the allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the NNPCL and to prosecute any individuals found responsible.

“The increase in petrol price is causing immense hardship to those less well-off. As the economic situation in Nigeria deteriorates, the increase is pushing people further into poverty.

“Holding the NNPC to account for alleged corruption and mismanagement in the oil sector would serve legitimate public interests.”
