Ahead of the Edo State governorship election on Saturday, September 21, award-winning musician David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has publicly endorsed Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
On Sunday, September 15, Davido took to his Instagram stories to show his support, posting a photo of Ighodalo with the caption: “The next governor of my mother’s homeland.”
Davido’s mother is from Edo State, adding a personal touch to his endorsement, which has generated significant buzz among political observers and fans.

The endorsement comes shortly after Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, visited Benin City as part of a PDP governors’ delegation to support Ighodalo at a major rally.
This visit underscores the growing backing for the PDP candidate from prominent political figures across Nigeria.
Davido’s support is anticipated to resonate strongly with younger, often disengaged voters, a demographic he has successfully mobilized in the past. With his extensive social media following, Davido’s endorsement could influence the election narrative in a state plagued by voter apathy.
Davido’s backing adds to a roster of high-profile supporters for Dr. Ighodalo, including celebrities like Banky W, actress Adesua Etomi, actress Etinosa, Nollywood actor and producer Charles Onojie, as well as influential business figures such as Dr. Aloy Chife and former Nigerian Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Governors Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke of Cross River State have also voiced their support, further energizing Ighodalo’s campaign.
