Court Gives Fresh Directive To INEC On Edo APC Polling/Collation Agents

A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an injunction preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from barring the All Progressives Congress (APC) polling and collation agents from participating in the governorship election in Edo State on Saturday.

Presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, the court also directed INEC to temporarily accept and recognize the APC’s list of polling and collation agents for the election.

In the case, numbered FHC/AB/CS/1326/2024, the APC is contesting the exclusion of its agents from the electoral process.

Following the presentation of the application by APC counsel Abdulghani Arobo, assisted by Ayodele Toe and Ayodeji Ibekunle, the judge instructed that the electoral commission must allow the APC agents to participate until the motion on notice is resolved.

The case has been adjourned to September 18, 2024.

Justice Nwite said: “An order of interim injuction of this Honourable court is gereby made restraining the defendant from depriving the polling and collation agents of the plaintiff official tags and full participation in the forthcoming Edo governorship election and instead directing the defendant/respondent to temporarily publish or issue customised rags with the names, details and documents of the plaintiffs polling agents or submitted for for the purpose of the forthcoming Edo State governorship election, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
