Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has clarified the purpose of his recent visit to ex-Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida in Minna, Niger State.
Obasanjo, along with former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and General Aliyu Gusau, arrived at Babangida’s Hill Top residence for a private meeting.
They landed at Minna International Airport in a Golf Stream 5 Aircraft around 4:30 p.m. and went directly to Babangida’s home.
According to a source close to the visit, the four prominent figures engaged in a closed-door discussion that lasted about an hour.

Obasanjo departed Minna around 6:20 p.m.
The source suggested that the meeting likely addressed urgent national issues, particularly concerning the current economic challenges.
“The meeting might not be unconnected with national issues especially the current hardship being faced by Nigerians. But I am not confirming to you what was discussed.”
“Obasanjo arrived Minna in company of 10 people and he drove straight to IBB’s residence.
He was joined by General Abdulsalami Abubakar and General Aliyu Gusau.
The former president came in a chattered aircraft and landed at Minna Airport”, he said.

However, in a statement released from Abeokuta on Sunday night, Obasanjo clarified that his visit to Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) was to extend birthday greetings.
IBB, who turned 83 on August 17, was celebrated by Obasanjo who had been unable to visit earlier due to his busy schedule abroad.
The statement, issued by Obasanjo’s Media Aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, also noted that earlier on Sunday, Obasanjo had visited Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, in Edo State to celebrate his 90th birthday.
Following the celebration in Benin, the former President traveled to Minna in Niger State to visit President Ibrahim Babangida, who had turned 83 on August 17.
President Obasanjo acknowledged President Babangida’s contributions and celebrated his continued good health.
“In his remarks, Obasanjo said he could not do this earlier as he was outside the country. He prayed for continued good health for the President,” the statement said.
