Zamfara Governor Gives Update On Bandit Leader Bello Turji

The Governor of Zamfara State is confident that the era of terror caused by the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji will soon end.

Governor Lawal also believes that Turji will either be captured or eliminated in the near future.

“It’s only a matter of time,” the governor said on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today when asked about the likelihood that the notorious bandit will be stopped.

“With what we have in place, with the collaboration between us (the state government) and the Federal Government, security agencies, believe me, it is only a matter of time; Turji would be killed very, very soon.”

The governor’s remarks follow recent military successes against bandits, including the death of the notorious bandit leader Halilu Sububu, who had been terrorizing Zamfara, Sokoto, and other areas in the North-West. Sububu, along with over 30 other bandits, was killed last week.

While the governor does not expect the elimination of Bello Turji alone to eradicate banditry entirely in the state, he is confident that it will lead to a significant reduction in such activities.

Governor Lawal believes that the military is on the right path and must continue its efforts without pause, as this is essential for achieving a complete end to banditry.

“What we need to do is to sustain this military pressure,” he said.

“If we are able to sustain this pressure within the next two weeks to one month, believe me, it will be a different story as far as banditry is concerned.”
