Presidency Makes Announcement On Cardoso’s Position As CBN Governor

President Bola Tinubu has not requested Yemi Cardoso to step down from his role as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), according to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga, in a statement on his official X handle on Tuesday, dismissed reports claiming that Tinubu had asked for Cardoso’s resignation, calling the reports a “bundle of lies.”

“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” Onanuga said while dismissing the report.

The report alleged that President Tinubu directed Yemi Cardoso to resign before his departure for China, despite attempts by influential Yoruba leaders to retain him in the position.

Cardoso has been criticized for his inability to resolve the ongoing economic challenges and stabilize the Naira.

A seasoned economic and development policy advisor, Cardoso was nominated by President Tinubu on September 15, 2023, and officially assumed office as the CBN Governor on September 22, 2023.
