Why We Won’t Take Part In Rivers LG Election – PDP

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it will not participate in the upcoming local government elections slated for October 5.

State party chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, made this known following a stakeholders’ meeting at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt.

Chukwuemeka explained that the party is awaiting a court ruling in the case filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) concerning the election and urged party members to refrain from engaging in any activities related to the polls.

“We’ve just risen from a stakeholders meeting and took the following decisions that as a law-abiding party we will not be part of the purported local government election that they have slated for the 5th of October,” he stated.

“A few months ago, there was a suit instituted by the APC, we are not part of that suit. But as a law abiding party, we heard that an order was issued by the court restraining the parties that status quo remains the same. That RSIEC should not go ahead with the election, and we will wait for the court decision.”

This follows days of conflicting press briefings from Emeka Beke, the reinstated APC Chairman, and Tony Okocha, the ousted CTC Chairman, who offered differing statements regarding the party’s participation in the upcoming election.
