Governor Eno Takes Action As Petrol Price Climbs To N2,500 Per Litre In Akwa Ibom

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has established a monitoring committee for petroleum products following the conflict between the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Akwa Ibom State Council, and the Joint Task Force on Security, which led to a petrol price surge to N2,500 per litre.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah, appointed former lawmaker Godwin Ekpo as the chairperson of the 13-member committee, with Peggy Edoho, a representative of the Ministry of Transport, serving as secretary.

The committee also includes commissioners for Environment and Mineral Resources, Internal Security, and Waterways, alongside the state chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Victor Etefia, the governor’s aide on petroleum matters.

This announcement came just hours after Governor Eno held a meeting with IPMAN members, whose service suspension had driven petrol prices up to N2,500 per litre in the state.

The petroleum marketers had closed their stations in protest of the alleged seizure of their trucks by the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe.
