Hassan Nasrallah, the long-time leader of Hezbollah, was confirmed dead following a significant Israeli airstrike on Beirut on Friday evening.
The Israeli military had announced the assassination earlier that day.
Nasrallah had gained immense popularity after the 2006 war with Israel, seen as a hero by many not just in Lebanon but throughout the region.
His resistance against Israel defined his leadership and that of Hezbollah, especially during its earlier years.

However, his reputation shifted when Hezbollah became involved in the Syrian conflict, leading to criticism from various Arab countries and perceptions that he was more aligned with Iranian interests than with Lebanese resistance.
Despite controversies, including allegations regarding the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, Nasrallah maintained support from Lebanon’s Shia community, who viewed him as a significant religious and political figure.
Born in 1960 in East Beirut, Nasrallah’s early life was marked by a deep interest in Islam. He became involved in political activism through the Amal movement, later founding Hezbollah with Iranian backing in 1982.
