Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to refrain from “putting fire” in his state.
Makinde made this plea in response to Wike’s remarks during an event organized by the Ijaw Peoples Congress in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, where Wike issued a bold threat. Makinde requested that Wike spare Oyo State from any potential actions he might be considering.

“I came to identify with my brother, the celebrant of today, the honourable minister of the federal capital territory and the immediate past governor of Rivers state,” Makinde said.
“When I showed up yesterday, I told him I brought a peace offering because he has been boasting that he will put fire in some states. I said, please, don’t put fire in Oyo state.”
In the wake of the political rift between himself and the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, the minister said, “Nobody has the monopoly of causing violence.”
Wike also took the opportunity to clarify the public misconception that Fubara was representing the views of the entire Ijaw people amid their power struggle.

“I have told people that nobody has a monopoly on causing violence. The mere fact that we choose to play according to the rule of law. To be calm and not to turn ourselves into where investors would run away, and that is what we will continue to do,” he said.
“So, all these people going to television to say Ijaw people are fighting me. ask them, all the Ijaw people in the House of Assembly were positioned.
“Who has Fubara made? All the things you see are people who are envious of our growth. They couldn’t do what we are doing today. These are people who we have defeated politically severally. If the opportunity comes again, we will defeat them again.
“I have made an Ijaw man governor of Rivers State. God used us. All of us here had sleepless nights. So who loves Ijaw more? Is it people who come out on television who can not even make their Ijaw brother governor? If they were that powerful, since the old Rivers State, has Ijaw ever become governor? Where are they?”
In August, Nyesom Wike warned governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against meddling in the affairs of the party in Rivers State.
The ongoing rift between Wike and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has led to the emergence of two factions within the Rivers House of Assembly, with each side electing a speaker loyal to either the minister or the governor.
Concerned about the situation, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, stated that the party structure in Rivers would be handed over to Fubara.
Unhappy with Mohammed’s remarks, Wike threatened to “set fire” in states governed by PDP leaders who support Fubara.
In response to Wike’s threat, Mohammed confidently remarked that he had enough water to extinguish Wike’s fire.
