The Rivers State Police Command has affirmed its commitment to enforcing court orders related to the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024.
In a statement titled *’Proposed October 5th, 2024 Local Government Chairman Election,’* issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the police confirmed receiving a restraining order preventing them from providing security for the elections.

The Command acknowledged the Federal High Court ruling of September 30, 2024, from Abuja, which prohibits the police from participating in the elections.
The Force Legal Department advised that the ruling takes precedence over any other directives.
The statement also mentioned a protest by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during which they demanded compliance with the court orders.
