Details Emerge As Obasanjo, Adebanjo, South East Governors Set To Storm Imo

Ahead of the burial of the late President-General of Ọhanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Senator Ben Obi, head of the burial planning committee, announced that several prominent Nigerians have expressed interest in attending the ceremony.

He mentioned that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the five southeastern governors, and notable Yoruba leader Ayo Adebanjo, among others, would be present at the event.

The late entrepreneur and politician is set to be buried on November 1 at his country home in Attah, Imo State.

While addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Mr. Obi, represented by Prof. Ike Ikechukwu, chairman of the media sub-committee, emphasized that the necessary preparations are underway.

“We have continued with the needed sensitisation of respected elder statesmen and women, as well as stakeholders , friends and well-wishers within and outside the country.

“The South-East governors, in their last meeting, reaffirmed their resolve to give our leader the befitting and dignified exit rites he deserves.

“This is in addition to the support of national stakeholders and a diaspora community that is currently organising and projecting other activities in honour of Ahaejiagamba.”

“As indicated in our earlier exchanges with the media, the series of activities lined up for this purpose will end with his final interment on the 1st of November, 2024”, he said.

Mr. Obi characterized Mr. Iwuanyanwu as a gift from God to the Ndigbo, the country, and the world at large, highlighting his significant impact on many lives, communities, and sectors throughout his long and eventful life.

“He invested heavily in nation building, group cohesion and the struggle for equity in our national life,” he said.

Chris Isiguzo, President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), praised the late Igbo leader as a worthy Nigerian deserving of celebration by all.

Mr. Isiguzo described the late elder statesman as “the best president Nigeria never had,” noting that Iwuanyanwu was a patriotic Nigerian who positively influenced the lives of many.
