BREAKING: Court Restrictions Prevent EFCC From Investigation In 10 States – Olukoyede Makes Fresh Revelations

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede, has revealed that the EFCC is currently unable to conduct investigations in 10 Nigerian states due to court orders restraining the commission.

Olukoyede made this disclosure during the 6th EFCC-NJI Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges, held at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja.

The theme of the workshop, “Integrating Stakeholders in Curbing Economic and Financial Crimes,” was described as timely by the EFCC Chair.

Although Olukoyede did not specify the states affected by the court orders, he expressed concern over how these legal constraints are hindering the commission’s operations.

He also highlighted other challenges facing the EFCC, such as the frequent adjournments of high-profile cases, contempt orders, and an over-reliance on technicalities by the courts.

Olukoyede further criticized the practice of suspects rushing to court to obtain restraining orders to prevent their arrest by the EFCC, urging the judiciary to discourage such actions.

While acknowledging that the EFCC is not infallible, he emphasized that the commission has taken steps to reform its investigation processes to ensure compliance with the law.
