Aisha Yesufu, a Nigerian human rights activist, has clarified that her support for Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, is not unconditional.
In a recent interview on the “Mic On” podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, she expressed her willingness to switch support if a better candidate emerges for the 2027 presidential election.

Yesufu stressed that she is not a member of the Labour Party; she backed Obi in the last general election because she believed he was the best option at that time.

She emphasized that her commitment prioritizes Nigeria’s interests over party loyalty or personal affiliations.
She said: “Absolutely, if there is a better candidate, I will go with the better candidate. I’m not tied to anyone or anything. And I can tell you something, even Peter Obi himself, like he said he is not desperate to be the President, but he is desperate to see Nigeria work.
“He himself said that if there is a better candidate, he will support that candidate. It is about our country that we need to be rescued, it is not about anyone. It is not about anyone occupying an office.”
