The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in a case brought by 16 state governments challenging the constitutionality of the laws that established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other related agencies.
On Tuesday, a seven-member panel of justices, led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, set the matter aside after the lawyers presented their arguments.

The suit was originally filed by the Kogi State Government through its Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, with several other states seeking to join as co-plaintiffs.
The states involved in the suit, marked as SC/CV/178/2023, include Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Ogun, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, Enugu, Benue, Anambra, Plateau, Cross River, and Niger.
Meanwhile, the Attorneys General of Anambra, Adamawa, and Ebonyi announced their withdrawal from the case, which the panel accepted.
