BREAKING: We Will Start Picking Up Beggars In FCT From Monday – Wike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned roadside beggars to stop their activities or face arrest by enforcement agents.

This announcement was made by the minister during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of access roads to the newly designated judges’ quarters in Katampe.

He expressed concern over the alarming number of individuals occupying the streets, which poses a security threat to the metropolis.

The minister set an ultimatum for October 27, 2024, for the affected individuals to vacate the streets.

Wike also recounted how he had revoked the certificate of occupancy for several plots of land allocated to the German construction firm Julius Berger in the Katampe District of Abuja.

The ceremony for the design and construction of 40 judges’ quarters was attended by dignitaries including the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.

Wike noted that 70% of the funding for the project had already been released following its approval by the Federal Executive Council last month. Of the 40 units to be constructed, 20 will be allocated to the FCT High Court, 10 to the Federal High Court, and 10 to the Court of Appeal.
