Israel’s army confirmed on Tuesday that it “eliminated” Hashem Safieddine, believed to be a successor to the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, during a strike in a southern Beirut suburb three weeks ago. T
he military stated that Safieddine, head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, and Ali Hussein Hazima, head of the group’s Intelligence Directorate, were killed along with other commanders.
Hezbollah has not yet responded to the claims. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously stated that military operations had taken out Safieddine, without naming him specifically.

On the same day, Israel’s air force conducted a targeted strike on Hezbollah’s main intelligence headquarters in Dahiyeh, where over 25 militants were reportedly present, including Bilal Saib Aish, responsible for aerial intelligence.
Safieddine, a distant relative of Nasrallah, had been out of contact following the strikes. A source indicated he was a likely candidate for leadership within Hezbollah.
Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, head of the Israeli army, confirmed reaching Nasrallah’s replacement and much of Hezbollah’s senior leadership.
Following ongoing conflict with Hamas, Israel intensified its focus on Lebanon, resulting in over 1,500 casualties since September 23, according to Lebanese health ministry figures.
The Israeli military has urged residents to evacuate areas in southern Beirut, warning of impending strikes, while Hezbollah continues to launch projectiles into Israel. As of late Tuesday, around 140 projectiles had been fired by Hezbollah that day.
