Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has announced the immediate implementation of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for all workers in the state.
He emphasized that no worker will receive less than this amount, with potential increases ranging from N78,000 to N84,000 based on calculations by the government team.
This decision was made following a meeting with various labor leaders at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia late Friday.
Additionally, Governor Soludo has approved a monthly cash award of N10,000 for all pensioners in the state until the pension salaries are reviewed.

“This interim cash award was necessitated on my goodwill and empathy on the situation of the pensioners who nobody remembers in all the noise about new minimum wage.
“The state government is committed to a better secured Anambra. The state in days to come shall take delivery of hundreds of security vehicles for the vigilante groups and other security agencies even as other security measures are being negotiated.
“We urged workers to think positively about contributory pension scheme to save themselves of pension agonies. The earlier the state workers return to Contributory Pension scheme, the better for them,” the governor added.

Members of the Organised Labour were led by Humphrey Nwafor, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, and Chris Ogbonna, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress. They were joined by Edith Onwuka, Chair of the Anambra Joint Negotiating Council.
The unions represented included the NUJ, JUSUN, NULGE, NUT, and NUP, among others.
On the state government side, the team comprised the Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, Auditor-General, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Commissioner for Finance, and Chief of Staff, among others.
In response, NLC Chairman Humphrey Nwafor noted that the governor facilitated the negotiations with his approvals and expressed gratitude for his “worker-friendly” approach. He urged the governor to continue supporting Anambra workers as a father figure.
Nwafor also announced that the governor had donated land for the construction of the NLC state secretariat, known as Workers House, a significant achievement since the state’s creation in 1991, calling it unprecedented.
