List Of Northern Governors Paying Above N70,000 Minimum Wage

This decision came after a thorough meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Governor Bago expressed confidence in the state’s ability to sustain this wage, highlighting ongoing agricultural initiatives that will support the plan.

“This minimum wage is very sustainable. With our strides in agriculture, we are confident we can meet this commitment. We are also establishing civil service farms to enhance productivity among our workers,” Bago stated.

In addition to Niger, several other states, including Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Ogun, Ondo, Gombe, Kogi, Enugu, and Kebbi, have pledged to pay above the N70,000 minimum wage mandated by President Bola Tinubu.

Here’s a summary of four Northern governors who have announced minimum wages exceeding N70,000:

1. Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe State) – N71,500
   Governor Yahaya signed an agreement with the NLC on October 15, 2024, to implement this wage.
2. Ahmed Ododo (Kogi State) – N72,500
   Governor Ododo approved this minimum wage with immediate effect, also suspending taxes on the new amount for one year.
3. Nasir Idris (Kebbi State) – N75,000
   On October 23, Governor Idris confirmed the new minimum wage for civil servants in Kebbi.
4. Mohammed Bago (Niger State) – N80,000
   As mentioned, Governor Bago’s wage will take effect in November 2024, supported by the state’s agricultural development efforts.
