The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong condemnation regarding the unauthorized use of its official uniforms by online personality Mr. Martins Otse, known as “VeryDarkMan.”
In a viral video posted on his social media, VDM appeared in police attire, introducing himself as CSP VeryDarkMan and claiming to be Nigeria’s leading online police.
He stated his mission to “sanitize” the social media landscape by confronting oppressors, particularly online vendors.

VDM asserted that unlike the traditional police, he would bypass standard procedures to publicly expose offenders with evidence.
In response to the situation, the Police Force announced on Saturday that it has initiated an investigation into the video.
“The Force unequivocally disassociates itself from this unauthorized portrayal and has launched a full investigation to determine the source of the Police gear used, as well as the authority under which he acted.
“It is important to remind the public that the unauthorized use of Police uniforms, insignia, or accoutrements constitutes a criminal offense, as stipulated in Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, and is subject to strict penalties,” the statement read in part.
The police acknowledge and support the creativity of young Nigerians in content creation but strongly warn against the misuse of police uniforms or symbols.
They emphasized that unauthorized use of these items undermines the values and integrity of the Force and will not be tolerated.
