On Sunday, Iran called for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting to condemn Israel’s air strikes on the Islamic Republic that occurred the previous day.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the Council’s president, demanding a swift meeting to take a strong stance against what he termed “this aggression,” according to a ministry statement.
The Israeli air strikes on Saturday targeted military sites in Iran as a response to Tehran’s attack on Israel on October 1, which was itself retaliation for the deaths of Iran-backed militant leaders and a Revolutionary Guards commander.

In his letter, Araghchi noted that while most of the projectiles were intercepted by Iran’s defense systems, the attacks still resulted in damage to certain locations and the deaths of four soldiers.
He characterized the Israeli strikes as a “clear violation of Iran’s sovereignty,” asserting the nation’s right to respond to this “criminal aggression.”
The Israeli military claimed it successfully targeted Iranian missile factories, installations, and other systems across various regions, warning Tehran against retaliatory actions.
Iran has downplayed the impact of the strikes, stating they caused only “limited damage” to a few radar systems.
Media reports have referred to the Israeli assault as “weak,” suggesting that analysts believe the Islamic Republic is cautious about escalating the situation further.
