Real Madrid Reacts To Racist Abuse Of Barcelona’s Yamal

Social media footage appears to show the 17-year-old being taunted by a section of home fans as he celebrated his 77th-minute goal by pointing to his name on his jersey.

Barcelona triumphed with a commanding 4-0 victory, featuring two goals from Robert Lewandowski and another from Raphinha, pushing them six points clear at the top of La Liga.

In a statement, La Liga announced it would report the racist insults and gestures aimed at Barcelona players to the Hate Crimes Section of the National Police Information Brigade, as well as notify the Co-ordinating Prosecutor of the Hate Crimes and Discrimination unit of the State Attorney General’s office.

They emphasized their commitment to eradicating racism and hatred in and around stadiums.

Real Madrid also responded, stating they have launched an investigation to identify the offending fans.

Their statement expressed strong condemnation of any behavior involving racism, xenophobia, or violence in football and regretted the insults from a small number of supporters during the match.

Both La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have been actively working to address the rising incidents of racist abuse, implementing measures such as partial stadium closures.

Recently, four individuals were arrested for allegedly conducting an online campaign of hate against Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr., which included urging supporters to wear black masks to conceal their identities.

Additionally, three Valencia fans received eight-month prison sentences for racially abusing Vinicius during a match in May 2023.
