Major General Olufemi Oluyede has officially taken over as the Acting Chief of Army Staff during a handover ceremony at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
The Defence Headquarters shared photos from the event on its X handle, captioned: “Formal Taking Over Ceremony of the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General OO Oluyede.”
This appointment follows President Bola Tinubu’s decision to name Major General Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff while awaiting the return of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who is currently receiving medical treatment abroad.

Prior to this role, Oluyede served as the 56th Commander of the prestigious Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, stationed in Jaji, Kaduna. The 56-year-old general is a coursemate of Lagbaja, both having graduated from the 39th Regular Course.
Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992, with an effective date of 1987, Oluyede was promoted to Major General in September 2020.See photos below:
