Police Detain VeryDarkMan After Honouring Invitation

The Nigeria Police Force detained controversial social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Thursday evening.

While the specific reason for VDM’s detention remains unclear, his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, revealed that Otse was taken into custody after responding to a police summons.

Adeyanju noted in a post on X that his client had similarly honored a police invitation the previous day, Wednesday.

His post read, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”

The police have criticized the use of its uniform by VDM in a recent video, initiating an investigation to trace the source of the attire.

In the video, VeryDarkMan appeared in a police uniform, humorously introducing himself as a “Chief Superintendent of Police of the Online Division.”

Amid the backlash, he issued an apology on Thursday, expressing regret for wearing attire similar to the official police uniform.

VeryDarkMan also urged Nigerians to seek proper authorization before wearing police attire to prevent misunderstandings or legal issues.
