Kemi Badenoch has emerged as the new leader of the Conservative Party, winning the months-long leadership contest against Robert Jenrick.
The 44-year-old MP for North West Essex secured 53,806 votes, outpacing Jenrick’s 41,388.
Badenoch has served as shadow business and trade secretary since the Conservative Party lost the general election in July, after which Rishi Sunak stepped down as leader, paving the way for this leadership race.

Her campaign, named “Renewal 2030,” focused on guiding the Tories back into power in the next general election.
Though her outspoken stances on topics like maternity pay, gender equality, and net-zero policies have drawn criticism, Badenoch remains popular among Conservative members, having previously contested the leadership in 2022.
It is uncertain who will form her shadow cabinet, but she has hinted that her former rivals in the race will play a role.
However, James Cleverly announced prior to the result that he would return to the backbenches.

Following her victory, Badenoch thanked her fellow candidates, highlighting that the campaign had left the party “more united.”
She stated that the party’s primary responsibility as the opposition would be to hold Labour accountable while preparing for government ahead of the next election.
Badenoch then offered a candid critique of past Conservative administrations.
Ms Badenoch said: “Our party is critical to the success of our country.
“But to be heard, we have to be honest, honest about the fact that we made mistakes, honest about the fact that we let standards slip.
“The time has come to tell the truth.
“The time has come to tell the truth, to stand up for our principles, to plan for our future, to reset our politics and our thinking, and to give our party and our country the new start that they deserve.
“It is time to get down to business. It is time to renew.”
