At Friday’s hearing, some minors among the defendants fainted while awaiting arraignment, causing chaos in the courtroom.
The protesters had been detained in various states, including Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano.
The court has set bail for each defendant at N10 million, with the prosecution suggesting that charges be dropped for those who collapsed in court.
Falana, representing the defendants, filed a preliminary objection, arguing the court’s lack of jurisdiction over the case.
He pointed to Section 18(3) of the 1999 Constitution, Section 15 of the Child’s Rights Act, Section 2 of the Universal Basic Education Act, and Article 17 of the African Charter, stressing that minors should not be subjected to criminal prosecution.
